Support Youth
Raising livestock for market is a business venture for young boys and girls. Producing a marketable animal that meets quality meat grading standards and that returns a profit to the youth, is a challenge.
Through an education livestock marketing program, 4-H and FFA members are acquiring knowledge and an understanding of sound livestock production and management practices. 4-H and FFA members are offering their market animals to you over the auction block.
As a buyer, your participation in the sale encourages and recognizes youth for their time, expense and effort that has gone into the raising an animal for market. You may also obtain advertising value that accrues through the purchase of these animals.
2 Ways to participate
1. By all means, if you can, attend the sale in person. The excitement of the event and the drama of the auctioneer’s cry create an unforgettable scene. Auction committee men and ring men will be on hand to assist. 2. If you, your firm, or organization cannot attend the sale, but wish to participate, you can do so by proxy. Just contact Tom Benton (858-4905) or Richard White (263-8668), Co-Chairmen of the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce Livestock Committee to express your interest in purchasing at the sale or mail in the form on this brochure.
Payment to be made the night of the sale, unless prior arrangement have been made. Make checks payable to: Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce.
3 Ways to buy
FOR YOUR LOCKER You may elect to have your animal processed for your locker. You need to designate, at the time of sale, whether or not you wish to have your animal processed and where. All animals will be processed at the respective slaughter houses unless specified otherwise. Rabbit and poultry processing is available for a nominal fee when requested.
RESALE OR BUYBACK Any buyer may consign his purchase back to the Sale Committee for resale at the established commercial market price for sale day. The Committee handles all the details and the buyer pays only the difference between his bid and this market price.
All animals will be sold by the head. So for example, suppose you are bidding on a lamb. You bid $450 for the lamb and the buy-back price is $50 for this animal:
Bid $450.00 Buy-back $ 50.00 Your donation $400.00
Individuals -obtain top-quality beef, pork, lamb, rabbit, poultry, or goat at an attractive price. Your friends and neighbors may share a purchase.
Businesses - can use purchases for an employee barbeque or for goodwill gifts.
Organizations - may auction off wrapped meat as a fund raising event or use the purchase for a club barbeque.
FOR DONATION
Donating the meat to one of a number of nonprofit organizations has become increasingly popular. The youth get the benefit of your support, you get the promotion and the satisfaction of knowing your favorite organization has received the meat. You may also donate the processing fees or can leave that to the organization to whom you have donated the meat. If you are interested let us know and we will help you with the details.
Split buying
Two or more individuals, families, businesses or organizations may wish to split the cost of an animal. This reduces the cost to any one person or group and also reduces the amount of meat to each. Notify the auctioneer of the different buyers at the time of bidding. Buyers will be expected to agree on processing procedures prior to purchase. Split buying is also possible with buy-backs.
